Surreality

Funerals are such strange things.

It was good to see family I've not seen in years (or decades, even- I didn't even recognize one of my cousins... but then we realized it's been over 20 years since we last saw each other.) I hadn't seen "Granddaddy" Dayton (who also has Alzheimer's) since before I moved to Arizona and wasn't sure what to expect, but he recognized me and waved and called me "Anna"... just like always. Then he told me I talk like a Yankee.

The bulk of the day is one big blur of sunshine and family and tears and hugs and Catholicism.
One of Nannie's monogrammed hankies that came home to live with me.

It was exhausting.

I drove back to Atlanta today and have cocooned myself in my little house. My BlackBerry has reminded me how fortunate I am- I can't count the supportive emails, text messages and phone calls I've received this week. I'm grateful for my friends.

::deep breath::

I'm okay.

Nothing much to say.

I just realized my last post was made during snow day 2 of 3. It's now lush and green here in Atlanta.  The extended remix through-the-roof Spring pollen count almost killed me, but I've enjoyed reacquainting myself with a lot of things I've missed during those years in the desert: wisteria, dogwood, magnolia, honeysuckle...

I'm still doing those things I've been doing, looking for a job [unfortunately] and [still], freelancing as those gigs present themselves, spending lots of quality time with a bunch of amazing people I get to call friends, and doing random projects around my little house.

The things that I've filled my days with are either not significant enough to post about, or too private to share.

All things considered, I'm doing well. It's sort of amusing that I'm remarkably more positive after my life turned upside down a year ago than I've been in my entire life.  I'm not sure how I managed that, but I'm certainly not gonna complain. This is the most drama free phase of my life I've ever experienced. I like that.

So.. until those things change, things remain quiet on the blog front...
